ACTOR

JOB DESCRIPTION – TASTE BUDS FOUNDATION PROJECT

Job Title:                    Touring Theatre Actor and Workshop Leader

Reports To:               Troupe Manager

Based At:                   Touring Base, Carmarthen

Job Purpose

Touring primary schools within Wales, performing a T.I.E production on Healthy Living, as well as delivering quality workshops to emphasise and enforce the messages.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

1.      Ensure all materials supplied is studied, remembered and understood.

2.      Be punctual and prepared.

3.      Attend all scheduled rehearsals and performances.

4.      Deal with issues immediately or escalate.

5.      Act Professionally in line with company policies including, child protection, health and safety and equal opportunities.

6.      Deadlines are enforced strictly.

7.      Character Development.

8.      Aiding direction with input of ideas.

9.      Lead workshops following pre-devised schedules to ensure appropriate content is taught.

10.  Communicating and teaching healthy living topics.

11.  Maintaining energy levels of shows, and children.

12.  Deliver top quality workshops (Specialising in an age group).

Company and Project Information

The Taste Buds foundation and HELP are working together to create a successful, educative and enjoyable production on Healthy Living. Its main aim is to try and reduce the raising obesity levels in the U.K. and what better way than to start from a young age and teach through active learning and the medium of performing arts. We are a company who enjoy ourselves but are passionate about maintaining a strong and professional company image and building strong links and a good reputation among the communities we visit. This position is available on a 22 week touring season spread from January to July with possible re-employment next season when it will run for 33 weeks instead of 22, from September to July.

Personality

You must be confident and comfortable performing in front of young people. With a bubbly and friendly demeanour, you must have massive amounts of energy as you must go into schools and maintain energy levels of all those involved. Being adaptable open and honest are important traits as in encourages trust amongst colleagues and student as well as having the ability to lose your inhibitions and act like a total loon if the project requires it. Oh yeah… and you should be able to get on with kids.

Job Specific Skills

1.      Performance experience is essential.

2.      Touring and or T.I.E experience is desirable but not essential as training will be given.

3.      Able to communicate clearly and accurately.

4.      Workshop leader or assistant experience desirable

5.      Previous experience working with children is desirable

6.      Good level of general fitness as setting-up and breaking down can involve heavy work.

7.      May be required to perform character and chorus songs.

8.      A good level of improvisation skills is essential as children can catch you off guard.

9.      To be able develop strong characters and voice or multiple as is required without distracting from the piece.

10.  Experience of Epic or Epicesque (pantomime) style of theatre is desirable but training will be given.

11.  Have attention to detail at all times.

Personal Situation

Working for a touring theatre company can demand long hours and days away from home, so you must be prepared to spend up to a maximum of 5 days away from home (Monday-Friday). You must be flexible with travel arrangements due to unpredictability of bookings. This can be discussed to fit your and our specific needs.

Literacy Skills

You must be able to read and understand a script, reading and workshop material, analysing characters and plots to aid in creating a professional and educative show.

Management Skills

You must be able to manage, lead and execute a variety of workshops.

TECHNICIAN

JOB DESCRIPITION – TASTE BUDS FOUNDATION PROJECT

Job Description:                   Touring Theatre Technician

Reports To:                           Troupe Manager

Based At:                               Touring Base, Carmarthen

Job Purpose

Touring primary schools in Wales, providing technical lighting, sound and stage support to compliment and enhance the production.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

1.      To provide accurate and dynamic lighting for the production.

2.      To provide accurate and dynamic sound and f/x for the performance.

3.      Accountable for ensuring that all technical equipment is set up safely and accurately and packed away neatly and correctly.

4.      To do electrical testing on school sockets to ensure the 13amp maximum load is never exceeded.

5.      To provide assistance to a workshop leader during workshops.

6.      To help design all technical requirements for the show, e.g. lighting and sound designs, prop lists etc.

7.      In charge of maintenance of set.

8.      Deal with problems immediately or escalate.

9.      To act in line with company policy including health and safety, child protection and equal opportunities.

10.  To be punctual and prepared for every meeting and scheduled rehearsal/show.

You must be very patient and have great creativity coupled with a good knowledge of stage technology. You must be able to work as part of a team but motivated enough to work individually when required. You must be warm and bubbly with children as you will be taking part in workshop activities. You must be able to voice your opinions about the project and even the performance as you may be the only member who sees the show all the time as a whole.

Job Specific Skills

1.      Technical Theatre experience essential.

2.      Touring Technical Theatre experience greatly desired but not essential to quick learners as training can be given.

3.      Experience using Strand 100 series lighting desk desired but not essential as training can be given.

4.      Must have keen eye for detail ensuring that all equipment will be set up in optimum positions ready for the performance.

5.      Knowledge of health and safety requirements and safe ways to set up and store equipment.

6.      Knowledge of using an ammeter to ensure a safe wattage is being pulled from sockets.

7.       Must be able to repair and maintain all technical equipment.

8.      Experience of working with children is desirable.

You will be in sole charge of all technical equipment and be in charge of creating lighting and sound plans to compliment the production.
