The Young Actors
plan is the brainchild and a huge passion for Gary Dennis. I have a real drive
to help young actors/theatre studies students gain experience for the
professional world. Theatre is a difficult business to get a foothold in but in
South West Wales this is even more of an issue. Most theatre companies want
actors who have previous experience and getting that first job can be very
difficult (I know from experience how little there is). Our plan for the company
is to give third year students and graduates of theatre studies or acting this
experience. Although our business is small we know that we may need additional
help as it grows and we believe that by giving up and coming graduates this help
it will not only improve our product but improve their chances of professional
work after they have graduated. We would like to concentrate mainly on third
year students, this is because they have more basic training than first and
second year students and they are the closest to going to apply for professional
work. I know how little time they have during the third year but if we only got
them working for us one evening per week for 1-3 hours I know that they will
gain a lot from the experience. We would also like to offer them a small wage,
this may only be minimum wage at first while the company secures its financial
status but we feel that money is not as important as the opportunity to work at
a professional company and gain professional references. They would act as
workshop assistants under the Workshop Leader gaining the knowledge of how to
run a workshop as well as how to interact with children from a variety of age
groups. This ensures that we still deliver a quality product whilst still giving
the assistant professional work. We would hire them for an entire workshop
booking (for example a ten week booking) so that they can get to know the
children and so they see how a workshop is delivered in its entirety
